Alves de Sousa is a family-run Douro producer with five generations of winegrowing tradition. The family uses only grapes from its own estates: Quinta da Gaivosa, Vale da Raposa, Caldas, Estação, Aveleira and Quinta da Oliveirinha. Domingos Alves de Sousa represents the fourth generation and winemaker Tiago Alves de Sousa the fifth.

Vale da Raposa was reunited with the Gaivosa holdings in the late 1980s. Independent Douro DOC production began in 1991, and Quinta da Gaivosa debuted with the 1992 vintage. Quinta da Oliveirinha entered the present family operation in 2017. Today Tiago carries the fifth generation into a leading oenological role.
All wines are made from family-owned vineyards. Quinta da Gaivosa and Vale da Raposa form a contiguous core. Quinta da Oliveirinha covers about 15 hectares, includes old vines and carries the highest Port vineyard classification, A. Quinta da Aveleira is higher and increasingly focused on white varieties.
The house combines terroir-led Douro wines with Port. Documented Ports include Quinta da Oliveirinha Vintage Port, Quinta da Gaivosa 20 Year Old Tawny Port and Quinta da Gaivosa 10 Year Old White Port.
Family continuity, estate-grown fruit and clear links between wines and individual quintas define the producer.
