Cockburn’s is a historic Port house founded in 1815 by Robert Cockburn. It is closely associated with the Douro Superior, Quinta dos Canais and a long tradition of Vintage Port. Since 2010 it has been owned by Symington Family Estates.

During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Cockburn’s built a strong reputation for Vintage Port. It was an early investor in the Douro Superior and played a role in reviving Touriga Nacional. In 1969 the house introduced Special Reserve. The Symington family acquired major Cockburn’s assets in 2006 and the brand in 2010, followed by a broad review of viticulture and winemaking.
Quinta dos Canais in the Douro Superior is the key estate. About 96.6 hectares are planted with vines, notably Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Other associated vineyards include Quinta do Vale Coelho and Quinta do Cachão do Arnozelo.
The range includes Special Reserve, Ruby, Tawny, White, LBV, Vintage, Quinta dos Canais Vintage and 10 and 20 Year Old Tawny. O Provador is a Reserve Tawny based mainly on fruit from Quinta dos Canais.
Cockburn’s is associated with the early development of the Douro Superior, Touriga Nacional, the Reserve Port category and a distinctive Vintage tradition. Its Gaia cellars also retain an in-house cooperage.
