The family vineyards extend back several generations. Rita Marques made an early Conceito Tinto in 2003; distributor Teixeira Wine Group identifies 2005 as the birth of the commercial project. Conceito subsequently developed as an independent Douro producer of both dry wines and Port.
The vineyards lie in the Vale da Teja in the Douro Superior, often at 450 to 600 metres. Granite and schist, old field blends and very old vines are important. Teixeira Wine Group lists the estate as certified organic. Granite lagares and foot treading are documented for several Ports.
The range includes Tawny, White Tawny, aged Tawny styles, LBV and Vintage. High elevations and old vines support a style combining ripe Douro fruit with freshness. Wine Enthusiast rated the 2016 Vintage Port 92 points.
Conceito represents a younger generation of independent Douro producers who vinify family vineyards themselves and market Port and DOC Douro wines under one identity.
